Barcelona only have a few more days to try to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
Will Barcelona finally sign the Liverpool playmaker?
After Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 4-0 on Sunday, many Reds supporters are starting to believe it wouldn’t be the worse thing in the world if Coutinho left Anfield now.
Maybe Liverpool should sell Coutinho now and launch a serious assault for Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk?
Barcelona have made three bids for Coutinho this summer, and Liverpool have rejected all three approaches. Even if Barca were to up their offer this week, Liverpool are poised to bat that bid away too.
Even the tabloid press in England are starting to realise the Coutinho to Barcelona deal isn’t happening.
With that being said, the likes of the Star and the Mirror on Monday are reporting the update timetable for a possible deal for the South American star. The Star announce the following:
Philippe Coutinho is ready to concede defeat in his attempt to join Barcelona this week and knuckle down at Liverpool.
It is understood, though, that the Brazil international would still be open to his dream move to Barcelona next summer.
He hopes Liverpool would be more inclined to release him then, as the Anfield club would also have had more time to line up a replacement if they accepted the forward could be leaving next summer.
Twelve months is obviously a long time in football, and one has to wonder whether Barcelona will still be so keen on Coutinho in a year’s time.
Coutinho, meanwhile, has to work his way back into the Liverpool setup having issued a transfer request this summer.
The international break may have come at a good time for Coutinho, while he could make his first Liverpool appearance of the season against Man City when the Premier League restarts.
